"I was in Australia, reading an old, yellowed paperback copy of Malcolm Lowry's involution of hell, Under the Volcano, while all around massive forest fires were burning out of control. New South Wales, Australia's Easternmost state, was in the midst of the 1994 Eastern Seaboard Bushfires. I was touring in a band called the Lemonheads.
